Three steps, one minute
This is the whole process.
Prompt
Describe the game you want in plain language. "A two-player space battle with drifting asteroids" works. So does "simple puzzle game." The AI handles the rest.
Play
In about a minute, your game is playable right in your browser. Test it, tweak it in chat ("make the enemies faster," "add a score counter"), and iterate until it feels right.
Share
Hit publish and you get a link. Anyone can play it on any device. Your game also appears in the Instaplay explore feed, where other people discover it on their own.
What is free, what is not
Straightforward breakdown. No fine print.
Free
- 2 games per day without an account, up to 4 per day with a free account
- Games play on any device (phone, tablet, computer)
- Real-time multiplayer included, not an add-on
- No download, no install. Everything runs in the browser
- Published games stay live. They do not expire
Not free
- Higher daily generation limits require credits (pay-as-you-go)
- Credits let you make more games and iterate more within a day
That is the entire line. Everything else is free.
What you can make
The AI generates real, playable browser games. Here are some of the types people make.
- Arcade. Side-scrollers, shooters, dodgers, runners. The classic stuff.
- Puzzle. Match games, logic grids, word games, spatial puzzles.
- Multiplayer. Real-time shared rooms. Two-player battles, cooperative survival, party games.
- 3D. Three-dimensional browser games. Newer than 2D, so expect compact scenes rather than open worlds.
- Everything between. Tower defense, card games, trivia, idle games, platformers. If you can describe it, the AI will take a swing at it.
Other free options
Instaplay is not the only path. Here is what else is out there.
- Rosebud AI has a credit-limited free tier and generates editable JavaScript games, including 3D. Strong for large 3D scenes and for people who want to see the code.
- GDevelop is open source, fully free, and exports to web, mobile, and desktop. It is a real engine, not a prompt-to-game tool: you design the logic yourself with AI assistance.
- Upit (by FRVR) is in beta. It generates 2D casual games from prompts with an AI assistant. Pricing is not yet published.
Each tool makes different trade-offs. We wrote a longer comparison at bestaigamemaker.com if you want the full breakdown.
Questions people ask
Is Instaplay really free?
Yes. You can make up to 2 games per day without even signing up, or up to 4 per day with a free account. Games play on any device, multiplayer is included, and there is nothing to download. Higher daily limits require credits, which are paid. Your existing games stay live regardless.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser. You type a prompt, the game builds in the cloud, and you play it right there. Anyone you share the link with can play the same way, on a phone, tablet, or computer.
Can I make multiplayer games for free?
Yes. Real-time multiplayer is built into the platform. When you describe a multiplayer game in your prompt, Instaplay generates one with shared rooms that multiple players can join at the same time. No extra cost, no networking setup on your end.
Who can play what I make?
Anyone with the link. Published games are playable on any device with a browser. Players do not need an account or a download. Your games also appear in Instaplay's public explore feed, so people can discover them without your link.
What happens after the free tier?
If you want to make more games per day than the free tier allows, you buy credits. Credits are pay-as-you-go. Your existing games stay live and playable forever regardless of whether you buy anything. There is no subscription.
